Mission Statement

The BOLD Research study has been running since summer 2018. The goal of BOLD is to understand:

- long-term quality of life issues that women with breast cancer face during and after treatment,

- differences and similarities in quality of life among women with metastatic breast cancer compared with women with earlier stage breast cancer.

Our ultimate goal is to improve breast cancer care and quality of life among women with breast cancer, across all cancer stages. From the insights that we will gain from the BOLD study, we hope to address specific issues that are unique to different patient groups. For example, different cancer groups can be defined by cancer stage, age, different life-stages, different life situations, and individual and family circumstances. The study is conducted in close cooperation with the University of Minnesota oncology clinic.

Participants

Any woman with a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis, or within two years of her initial breast cancer diagnosis, regardless of cancer stage, is eligible to participate in the study.

Study Methods

At study entry, a member of the research team will explain the purpose and procedures of the study, and participants will sign study consent forms. Participants will then fill out the baseline survey. After that, participants will be invited to fill out follow-up surveys at regular intervals: every four months in the first two years, and every six years after that (future study funding beyond two years pending).
